"Soundcloud was leaving the djs and focusing more on the producers." If only that were true. Around the time of your post, Soundcloud was already rolling out artist-hostile features, such as auto-playing tracks from unrelated artists after your tracks end. There's still no way to turn this off.

Thanks Henrik - I am going to check out CDJ Aggregator, what a wonderful concept! BTW have you used Rekordbox from Pioneer? I am trying to find a good way to organize metadata in my Mac and haven't found the right system for myself yet. Great blog....will follow you. :-)

Whoa, that's some crazy shit. I was randomly Googling some stuff, trying to figure out whether to go with Mixcloud or Soundcloud and I come across your post! Dom, this is Alex from Ukraine, remember? So I'm one of the guys behind Mixcloud, if you have any ideas how to improve the interface please drop me an email to mat(@)mixcloud.com, this area is in very active development. Our number one priority is to get DJ's plays, this is currently the entire focus of the product team, and navigation is a huge part of that.

I too am facing the dilemma between Soundcloud and Mixcloud. I definitely think Soundcloud is much easier to navigate as well as finding and follow artists. However, I'm sticking with mixcloud because its free with no restrictions. If only Mixcloud could improve their interface then I think listens per mixes would drastically increase....

feb 2012 that's not long ago! well i got to soundcloud and mixcloud both early i think mixcloud was in private beta earlier when i showed interest
soundcloud is good, quality, interactions, UI, that waveform, looked like a seemless system there weren't such things before! yes, audio players and hosts were there but nothing like soundcloud, but then they restricted it to 2 hours, i don't want downloads, i can live with that but i am a free user so there mixcloud won! mixcloud was like opensource to soundcloud! like linux to mac can't say windows because windows are already out there!

soundcloud: had dash to it
mixcloud : a service that does free service!

don't know how they are compensating for the bandwidth usage and all! adsense is there but single unit covers how much?

i am no use to either mixcloud or soundcloud for i am not even an amateur dj etc let alone being recognized producer.
but they serve me well and i am heartly thankful!

Thanks for the constructive feedback, we measure plays differently to Soundcloud, for example we only count distinct users, so refreshing the page doesn't count as two plays, this probably accounts for some of the differences. There are some other subtle differences as well, and this is something we are continually adjusting.
We're also working on new and better ways to find mixes, watch out for some updates shortly, but this is a major weak point of the service at the moment, and one we are fixing :)
